I have to admit that I didn’t have high expectations towards the Guru S. Several months of living with dozens of different wires (some of them being disgustingly expensive) transformed my audiophile perception into despectful attitude towards any wire that costs less than a pair of good speakers. With the Guru S I could not be more wrong.

The Guru S is an entry level interconnect in ´Lifetime Series´ which literally means ´until the last day of your life´. It is available in spools or in sets of defined lengths, on request you can have whatever is not a standard length. The termination options are plentiful – balanced versions feature Neutriks, single-ended versions use either WBT (anything from their catalogue) or Eichmann‘s Bullet Plugs. The name of the interconnect varies with the type fo termination: the ´S´ means solid core (the 3rd generation of Guru uses solid core wires), SX means one-point-ground WBT’s Nextgens or Bullet Plugs, ´Pro´is reserved for balanced (Neutrik XLR) versions.

The Guru is of a hybrid construction which means silver conductors on the copper core, braided in cross-twin fashion. As there is increasing frequency interference with the environment that surrounds us (we pay for wireless comfort) Krautwire pays attention to thorough shielding. Guru addresses the issue with geometry, special screening layer and PTFE shielding taping – this effectively reduces the unwanted noise. As Teflon is still the best dielectric material available it is used for insulation.

There is one remarkable benefit from Krautwire Guru: it has been designed not only for the picky ears of audiophile listeners. It withstands quite merciless manipulation – the multilayer industrial fibre and elastolan construction protects the wires from damages and you can even step onto it without any consequences. You can therefore use the Guru for professional application on stage or in a studio. Surprisingly, despite its rugged design, the cable still keeps excellent pliability, could be easily accomodated behind the rack and with its appearance would visually fit any high-end gear.

Initial impressions, out of the box: the sound was seamless, there was no apparent accenuation of neither deeps nor highs, midrange was full and balanced with a nice level of resolution and soundstaging. Maybe there was a lack of ultimate ambient clues but considering the Guru was not burnt-in properly the result was very good indeed.
After 60 hours of burn-in: there were no new details to be heard but those that had existed improved their definition, the highs developed certain delicacy (including the bell like quality of cymbals which is rather rare in this category), bass became more accurate and overall sound got a bit more relaxed. Everything resulted into more "be there" feeling, yet with the sound as straightforwardly robust as it was initially.

If you dream of tuning or correcting the sound of your audio equipment with a piece of interconnect then the Guru is not for you. It will not change the sonic character of what you already have – the signal in is basically the signal out for the Guru.

I tried the Krautwire Guru at two hifi equipment dealers where it challenged some other interconnects at a corresponding price category (Groneberg Quattro Reference, Oehlbach XXL-7, Inakustik NF-1302 and Audioquest Columbia). The differences were always apparent and always in favor of the Guru. Not because that Guru would reveal something new but rather because it clearly showed the drawbacks of the others. It is a perfect spectral balance of the Guru's sound that put the competitors to shame. Some contenders might be better on the top-end, might have deeper bass or might be pleasantly euphonic but at the end of the day I appreciated the sincerity and balance with which was the music conveyed through Guru. And I developed respect to it.
